sandair ground.pngCumbria play Staffordshire on Sunday at Cockermouth's Raymond Denham Sandair Oval(pictured) in their first home game of the season in the National Counties one-day Trophy.

This is the competition in which they got all the way to the final in 2019 (the last year that it was played).

After beating Cheshire in their opening game at the end of May, an unchanged team

has been selected.

Captain Gary Pratt is set to make his 50th appearance in Trophy games for the

County. He will be hoping for repeat match-day performances from the Cheshire

game from experienced players Michael Slack who returned the County’s best one

day Trophy bowling figures of 7 for 22 in just over eight overs and from Sam Dutton

who scored a century in 74 balls at Didsbury.

Cumbria President Eric Carter hopes the unchanged team will repeat the strong performance put up against Cheshire two weeks ago.

A win on Sunday against Staffordshire will put Cumbria in a strong position to qualify from the group which also includes Northumberland and Shropshire

This year selection for all National Counties games has to take into consideration that the youngest eight players selected must average less than 25 years of age as at 1st April and eight of the players must be Cumbrian (in terms of birth, schooling or their current club).

This has brought in some new faces into the team and James McGown (Keswick CC), Sam Sharp (Cockermouth CC) and Nico Watt (Wigton CC) all made their debuts in the win in Cheshire.

Staffordshire are a strong outfit with four of their named players having played First Class Cricket, captain Alex Mellor (for both Derbyshire and Warwickshire), Rob Hemmings (Derbyshire), Ben Cotton (Derbyshire and Northants) as well as Pete Wilshaw (Oxford UCCE).

Six others have played for first class county 2nd XIs including Zen Malik who has represented England under 19s at international level against Sri Lanka.

The teams -

Cumbria CC: Gary Pratt (cpt) (Richmondshire CC), Sam Dutton (Blackpool CC), Michael

Slack (Carlisle CC), Nathan Waterston (Furness CC), Matthew Sempill (Cockermouth CC),

Paul Hindmarch (Cockermouth CC), Tom Benn (Carlisle CC), Nico Watt (Wigton CC), Sam
