emergency funding.pngTen million pounds in emergency funding for clubs at Steps 3-6 of non-league has been announced by the government this afternoon.

The clubs at those levels can apply for their share of the pot of grants from tomorrow.

The maximum amounts per club are: Step Three - £27,000; Step Four - £15,000; Step Five - £10,500 and Step 6 - £7,500.

Clubs have to use the fundings by March 31but will be pleased the money is available in grant form, and not loans as applies to clubs at a higher level.

On funding for National League clubs, meanwhile, Sports Minister Nigel Huddleston said: “With precious public money, we are providing financial support to the National League Steps 1 and 2 in the form of loans. However, if clubs at those levels can demonstrate it needs grant funding urgently to survive, we will ensure that option is available.

“We will not let clubs go to the wall. Applications will be assessed by the independent Board, through the same rigorous process that we apply to other sports.”

Step 3-6 clubs will be contacted directly by the Football Foundation and will be able to make an application from tomorrow. Funds will be distributed quickly to clubs through the Football Stadia Improvement Fund.

Workington Reds chairman Dave Bowden said: “We are waiting to see full details and find out what we qualify for.”

Kendal Town, who are also in Step Three will be looking as well at what they can apply for.
