seasons over.pngThe Northern Premier League season is on the verge of being declared void for the second year in a row.

The Trident Leagues (of which the Northern Premier stands alongside the Isthmian and Southern Leagues) say they believe the current season should be declared null and void.

The leagues say the matter was discussed at length by the FA’s Alliance Committee earlier this week.

Step 3 and 4 clubs will be asked by The FA whether they believe the 2020/21 season should be cancelled, and if not, their suggested alternative.

As part of a statement, the league add: “Independent of that survey, all three of the Trident League’s boards hold the view that the season should cease immediately and be declared null and void. The ultimate decision lies with The FA Council, following a proposal made by the Alliance Committee but no proposal will be drafted until clubs’ views have been collated and assessed.

“In the meantime, the Northern Premier League is postponing all fixtures up to and including Saturday 6th March since there is no suggestion that the national lockdown will be lifted prior to this date. The league will continue to provide its member clubs with updates as and when it is able to do so.”

The last games were played in March last year, but the clubs were much further down the road to completion than this time round and given the time-scale would seem to be impossible to fit in.

The ‘elite’ classification of the National League, National League North and National League South sees clubs in those divisions set to continue their 2020/21 seasons.

As part of an announcement, The FA commented: “Dialogue will continue with the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport, leagues, competitions and County Football Associations and we will provide further updates for the 2020-21 Vitality Women’s FA Cup, Buildbase FA Vase and ‘non-elite’ football when relevant.”
