gooden clitheroe.pngAhead of a big few days Clitheroe have announced the signing of 20-year-old Iyrwah Gooden (pictured) from NPL Premier Division side Warrington Town.

Gooden joins the Blues on a dual registration basis with National League North side Chester City.

Just who will have the call on him for the FA Trophy hadn’t been announced – possibly Chester as highest-ranked club – because tomorrow Clitheroe visit Dunstan. That’s first versus second in the current NPL NW Division table.

Then on Tuesday Clitheroe visit Borough Park for a crucial League game against the Reds pitting the only two sides in the top five with unbeaten records against each other.

If he does play against Workington it will be a reunion for Reds striker Reuben Jerome and Gooden as both played in the Ramsbottom side last season. In fact they both scored in a 3-0 win at Droylsden last February which briefly took Rammy top of the League – the only time Reds were knocked off the leading position.

It’s only two years since Gooden earned a professional deal at League Two outfit Mansfield Town at the time the Stags said they “needed to secure him as Premier League and Championship teams were sniffing around because of his technical ability and ability to score goals from nothing."

After being released by Mansfield he joined Warrington, and had a spell with Ramsbottom United in the NPL NW Division last season, alongside Jerome, when he scored eight goals in 29 games.

It seems as though Warrington may have relinquished the dual registration on him and that’s now between Chester and Clitheroe.
