ppg image.pngWorkington Reds supporters will be pleased to hear that a growing number of clubs have joined a campaign against making the season null and void.

Those clubs are proposing that some teams are promoted using Points Per Game (PPG) from the last two seasons' results in order to fill gaps in the restructured pyramid. Their proposal would see no clubs relegated.

They have been forced into action because of an indication that the Trident Leagues management committee, which caters for the Northern and Southern Premier Leagues, as well as the Isthmian League, is in favour of declaring a second successive season null and void.

A statement put out tonight says: “Nobody wants to see another season pass without moving towards the FA’s League restructure vision.

“Over the past 17 months there has been a lot of football played which can give everyone a clear understanding of the strongest teams in each League.

“Some clubs in Steps 3-6 have played 46 League games in this period with 29 the fewest matches played.

“Points per game (PPG) is a commonly applied calculation used in the non-league system. PPG was also used to bring National Leagues to conclusion, as well as League One and League Two in response to last season’s disruption.

“We propose that if we cannot complete the season safely it would make perfect sense to implement PPG for non-league now with some very important points.

“No team would be relegated on PPG. Reward the strongest teams with a promotion. Allow the FA to restructure the pyramid with a 1-2-4-8-16 platform. Allow the National Leagues North and South to move to 24 clubs.

“There is no downside to the proposal. In many cases it’s the same teams that top their leagues now that topped it when the 2019/20 season was curtailed.

“We believe clubs at Step 3-3 will be surveyed for their opinions imminently, and what they reply will most likely advise what happens to Leagues at their level as well as at Step 5-6 also.

“We urge clubs to offer their support for the Project Non League proposal by stating – If we cannot play safely, use PPG from the last two seasons to rebalance the leagues with no relegation. We support the proposal put forward by Project Non League.

“If enough clubs offer their support we could still avoid another null and void decision and make a positive impact on the mental health of so many non-league regulars across the country who don’t want to see their hard work, support and passion go to waste again."

What are they all waiting for - get it done!!
