fa cup.pngWorkington Reds will start their FA Cup campaign in the preliminary round on September 12.

There had been some concerns that Reds might be one of the NPL North West Division clubs who would make their bow a week earlier in the extra preliminary round.

But it was announced today that Colne, Marske United and Pickering Town, along with Carlton Town and Spalding from the SE Division will start then.

Matlock Town, Staybridge Celtic and Ashton United from the NPL Premier Division will all feature in the Preliminary Round on September 12, alongside the remaining N/West and S/East Division teams.

There is a possibility, however, that the extra preliminary round games will be played on Tuesday August 1 although that still has to be confirmed.

The draws for those two early rounds of the competition are to be made a fortnight today, on August 18.

The First Round Qualifying starts on September 22, which will feature all remaining Premier Division teams.

With Reds not playing in the extra preliminary round it means their home friendly with Lancaster City will go ahead on September 5 – which will be used as their test game for rigorous risk assessment.

In order to assist in easing pressure on the football schedule, there will be no replays for the 2020-21 season in the qualifying competition. The schedule for the competition proper will be released in due course.

After two seasons of record levels of prize funds, the Emirates FA Cup prize fund has returned back in line with 2017-18 levels due to the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Extra Preliminary Round winners will receive £1,125 in prize funds. Preliminary Round winners will receive £1,444, while First Round Qualifying winners will receive £2,250.
