chris humphrey.pngKendal Town put up another gritty display at promotion-chasing Colne before falling to a goal five minutes from time.

All square, 1-1 at the break, player manager Chris Humphrey (pictured) had put his side ahead soon after the resumption.

Although it was cancelled-out ten minutes later the Mintcakes appeared to be battling to another well-earned point after their 1-1 draw at Clitheroe, when Colne scored to go top of the League.

Reece Webb-Foster had given Colne the lead after only four minutes, and for Kendal that represented a major set-back as they were taking-on a side with the incentive of going top if they got the win.

But gradually the Cumbrians were able to counter Colne’s exuberance and on 16 minutes grabbed the equaliser when Danny Keenan finished well from close range.

It stayed level until half-time and then within a minute Humphrey fired his side a head to give visions of a shock Boxing Day win.

But on 55 minutes it was Webb-Foster who was able to find the finish to beat Morgan Bacon and put his side level.

Kendal worked really hard to stay on terms, riding their luck on occasions, but the spirit that Humphrey has injected into the side was there in abundance.

Colne were looking increasingly desperate and frantic but on 85 minutes a cross into the box found the head of Tom Dean and he beat Bacon for the winning goal.
