Phil Norman.jpgVice chairman Phil Norman (pictured) has taken on the role of Workington Reds’ Covid-19 director, co-ordinating the club’s return to action at Borough Park.

One of the five newcomers who joined the board towards the end of the voided season, bringing a wide variety of skills and scope to the club, he will make sure Reds are good to go.

Confident that Reds will pass their risk assessment – and trusting that there is no second wave of the coronavirus paramedic – the club has confirmed a number of friendlies.

The players have been back in training for a number of weeks – starting in small groups – and itching to get back into action for the season which should start competitively on September 12.

A week before that Reds will host NPL Premier Division opposition in Lancaster City, a good test for the Cumbrians ahead of the new campaign.

That should be  Irish wingerthe first game that Reds fans get the chance to see their favourites in action as matches before then will be behind closed doors.

The first two confirmed friendlies will both be away – at Carlisle City on Tuesday, August 4 and the following Saturday (August 8) at Penrith.

Manager Danny Grainger has other friendlies pencilled-in but still to be confirmed but all are likely to be behind closed doors.alli signs ashton.png

Grainger would have liked to add Millenic Alli to the squad after he was released by South Shields but today Ashton United announced they had signed the Irish winger (pictured alongside) after he had created a favourable impression during his two loan spells with the Borough Park club.

Reds had offered a deal but Alli had said he was looking to find a club closer to his base in Lancashire – and Ashton United have fitted the bill.

Grainger has added strikers Ruben Jerome and Louis Potts to his squad and has former winger Sam Joel  on trial, but has not ruled out further additions.
