Through the recently formed Reds Foundation, up to 70 young people under the age of 16 will be provided with a hot meal a couple of days before Christmas.

As soon as the Workington players heard about the gesture, they had a whip-round and handed over a sizeable amount of cash towards paying for the meals.

Ahead of Saturday’s friendly with Penrith, they handed over the money to Reds’ two associate directors Simon Collins and Richard Lewthwaite, who is leading the exercise.

Between 12 noon and 3pm on Wednesday, December 23 in the Tony Hopper Bar at Borough Park, the players, directors and supporters will dish out hot takeaway meals and a drink to deserving youngsters.

Richard has been in touch with the community food banks for a list of deserving recipients and they will be invited to Borough Park on the day.

The Foundation was launched at the end of October to promote the benefits of health and well-being in sport for all ages and abilities, as well as involving local youngsters in events at Borough Park.

Covid-19 has restricted several planned projects but the club has been involved in contributing to community Food Banks.
