shaun gardner 2.pngThe NPL season looks to be heading for being declared null and void or settled by a points per game formula over the last two campaigns.

But even with no games on the immediate horizon, Kendal Town have confirmed two more signings for the Mintcakes.

Shaun Gardner (pictured) and Jack Egan have been registered by the Parkside Road club who had been looking for afinigh in the top half of the NPL North West Division.

Gardner has played over 300 semi-professional games with clubs including AFC Liverpool, a previous spell at Kendal Town and Penrith where he has been playing as a striker this season.

After a previous spell with Penrith he left at the end of the 2019/19 season to go as assistant to Garry Thompson, the former Morecambe pro who had ended his playing career at Workington before taking the Bradford PA manager’s job.

As a youngster he had trials with Sheffield United and Blackburn Rovers before most recently setting up his own successful coaching business (No.7 Coaching), going into schools providing specialist PE lessons and after school clubs.

Egan is a 22-year-oldmidfielder who started with Carlisle United, had loans spells at Workington and Clitheroe, and more recently has been playing in the North West Counties League with Padiham.

The Kendal team has been doing virtual training in lockdown and chairman Jay Rossi told his local paper the Westmorland Gazette: "We have continued to train online with various fitness and training sessions something which the players have engaged with well.

"If we had been allowed to continue, we believe that we would have finished high up in the table. The games we were losing were relatively close especially at Colne where the team did especially well.

"Not sure when we will be back as all clubs have to vote on whether to null and void if so, we will just wait till all is fine to play.

"As a team we have played more than anyone else in this League. We've managed twelve games so far, while a lot of people only have five.”
