Hi, welcome to Cumberland Echo, formerly known as Getnoticedonline, one of the most popular sports/news sites in the county over the last few years which unfortunately had to cease production because of increasing family commitments.

Indeed this is a re-launch for the Cumberland Echo as we have not worked on it since 2016 but the dreadful coronavirus which is affecting everybody's lives in the country has provided everyone with a lot more free time. Hence a revive website!

I’m John Walsh a professional journalist and broadcaster for 57 years. For the last 21 years I’ve been freelance, working from home, but originally joined Cumbrian Newspapers in 1963 as a trainee reporter.

Can I say here and now that I’ve enjoyed every minute of my career – I still enjoy getting up in the morning knowing I’ve work to do – and look forward to many more years of active journalism.

But the internet has changed the profession profoundly and I believe we are going to see even more changes. I would like to be part of that change.

By launching Getnoticedonline I had an idea for incorporating newspapers, magazines, radio and tv under one banner. That will still be the focus of the new Cumberland Echo site although some of the ideas have had to be put on hold.

When you visit the site I want to give you lots of options for staying with us – seeing and hearing and reading a variety of different topics, hopefully of interest.

In years to come I can see people being able to produce good family independent radio and tv shows and putting them out on the internet.

There are so many interesting subjects out there. The sky’s the limit to what can be provided. I want Cumberland Echo to become a pioneer in this respect – and be professionally respected in how it goes about the task.

Feedback is so important in launching a new project, so I’d love to hear any comments – good and bad. Suggestions are always welcome.

Thanks for getting this far – Hope you stay with us.

John Walsh
