conor tinnion.pngConor Tinnion, a key figure with Workington Reds for over a decade, has given the club yet another boost by signing a new deal.

Cockermouth-based Tinnion will be 30 next month and in a stellar Workington career has racked-up 304 appearances and 61 goals, many of them spectacular efforts.

When Reds start again in 2021/22 it will be Tinnion’s 12th season as a Workington player and he is now firmly established as Danny Grainger’s captain and an influential figure in the dressing room.

It’s been good news/good news all the way for Reds over the last week and it could only be topped by news that the NPL NW Division will be decided on points per game and Reds will be promoted.

Last week boss Danny Grainger and his assistant Stephen Rudd agreed two-year contract extensions, and Tinnion has admitted that announcement hastened his decision.

Speaking to the Reds website, Tinnion said: “It was a simple decision. I think once I knew Danny and Ruddy were staying, there wasn’t any doubt that I was so there weren’t any long negotiations.

“From a personal point of view, it’s obviously good to get it sorted this early and for it not to drag on.

“I’ve spoken to Danny a lot recently and it makes you feel that the 21/22 season is just around the corner but I think there’s going to be a bit of a lull at some point because we are only in February.

“You’re wanting to get going again but unfortunately we’re still quite a way off that.”

Naturally manager Grainger is delighted that Tinnion has re-signed again and said: “Tinners is captain for a reason. He always sets the standards - in matches, in training and leads by example for all the lads to follow, especially the youngsters.

“He’s a winner and that’s what we want to do at this club, win games and get to where we want to be.”
