phillips try 2.pngWhitehaven earned a superb 36-4 Championship win at Oldham as Callum Phillips returned in some style.

Back from a four-match ban Phillips scored four second-half tries as Haven romped over the finishing line for a spectacular victory.

It was a big win for the Cumbrians in what had already been labelled a 'must win' game at Bower Fold.

For the first half hour there was no score - and it rained heavily - and then Oldham grabbed the first (unconverted) try from Callum Green.

But Whitehaven took the lead with a Liam Cooper try just before half time, converted by Lachlan Walmsley, for a 6-4 lead at the break.haven oldham action.png

The second half was a rampage for Haven with a second try from Jessie Joe Parker, and then four in a row from Phillips, returning from his suspension in some style to pick-up the Man of the Match award.

All five second half tries were converted by Walmsley, who also set up the final two tries for Phillips. It was a great team effort, two vital points and a big boost of confidence for what lies ahead.

BEN CHALLIS supplied the report and pics, which feature match star Callum Phillips celebrating one of his four tries while Karl Dixon leaps well to gain possession.
