scott george try.pngIt wasn’t just the National Conference that got underway again at the week-end.

The newly-named Holmen Iggesund Cumberland ARL was also back in action, although Covid had a part to play as well.

Two Division One games – Maryport v Aspatria and Hensingham A v Egremont A – were both called-off because  players were self-isolating.

There were two tight, cracking games played in the Premier Division and in one of them the two sides couldn’t be separated as Distington drew 24-24 with Ellenborough.

Distington led 12-10 at half-time and the hard-fought contest continued on a knife-edge until the pair couldn’t be separated at the end.

The Distington tries were scored by Aiden Worthington(2), Troy Armstrong and Scott George with four goals from Clayton Sutton.troy armstrong try.png

For Ellenborough there were tries from Jordan Ostle, Luke Penrice, Andrew Ostle and John Todd. There were four goals for Owen Hoyles.

The other game was almost as tight, too as Seaton edged Glasson 30-26 after the visitors had staged a strong second-half come-back. They had trailed 18-8 at the break.

The Seaton tries came from Jackson Traverse, Levi Williams, man of the match Stu Gallagher, JJ Keys and Jay Rogan. There were five goals from Mark Walker.

Glasson’s tries came from Brad Oglanby (2), their man of the match Gary Taylor, Brad Tremble and Greg Wrathall. Tremble kicked two goals.

worthington tackle 2.pngOne game was played in Division One in which Cockermouth beat Lowca 26-10 after they had been all-square 4-4 at the break.

The Cockermouth tries were scored by Jamie Lightfoot (2), Regan Tinnion, Matt Skillen and Adam Cavanagh. Jack Clark kicked three goals.

The Lowca try scorers were Emerson Allen and Pal McNally with one conversion from Keith Campbell.

BRIAN ATKINSON was our man behind the camera at the Distington v Ellenborough game and in descending order are: Scott George going in for a try; Troy Armstrong gets over in similar fashion and Elbra pile into a tackle on Aiden Worthington.
