He comes back to west Cumbria fit and firing after playing most recently in his native France for Avignon.

Jouffret played for Haven in the 2015 and 2016 seasons, making 35 appearances and notching seven tries along with 85 goals. He then went on to star in the Championship with Batley and had brief spells with Toulouse and Featherstone.

After re-signing for the club Jouffret said: "I am looking forward to getting back to Whitehaven and trying to help the club for the rest of this season.

“I can't wait to play up there again and see my mates. I enjoyed my time there a few years ago and I hope it will be the same again."

Head coach Gary Charlton said: “I am delighted that the club has been able to secure Louis's services. He is well experienced in the Championship and our fans already know the attacking flair he brings.

“He can cover us in the halves and the full-back position, so with losing Gregg to injury, we felt we had to move to bring someone in and Louis fits the bill of the type of player we were looking for. He will come over fit, having been playing in the French competition this season."

Whitehaven host York City Knights on Sunday but still have a catalogue of injuries which include skipper Marc Shackley (1-2 weeks), Tom Walker (6-8 weeks), Dion Aiye (1-2 weeks), Callum Phillips (unknown) and Andy Thornley (8-10 weeks).
